Coach Tanner or Coach JT, as he is known by his athletes, enters his third season at Olympian where he coaches the horizontal jumps (long and triple jumps). Coach JT has a wealth of knowledge and application in track and field events. As a high school and collegiate competitor, he competed in short sprints (100m and , 200m respectively). He ran some occasional 400 meters.
His signature events were the 100 meters with a lifetime PR of 10.08 in the 100 meters and horizontal jump (long jump), having amassed a PR of 26 feet, 10 1/2 inches. He competed briefly at Louisiana State University as a collegiate athlete before joining the military in Oct 92.
Coach JT has over 20 years of coaching experience at various level. He has coached at the USATF Open Mens Division and USATF Youth levels . He has coached for two USATF Track Clubs in the Southern California Association and San Diego Imperial Association.
He is Level 1 Certified Coach having received his certification through USATF, the governing body for track and field in the United States of America since 1998 to the present.
