Coach Adkins is in his fourth season as the Head Coach overseeing both the girls and boys programs. In his second season (2017) at the helm, he led the Boys' Team to their first ever Mesa League Championship with a perfect 5-0 Dual Meet Record. In his third season (2018), the Girls' Team capped off a remarkable season with their first ever CIF San Diego Section Championship.
Coach Adkins has a diverse background in the sport of Track & Field as an athlete, coach, administrator and meet director. In 1979, he graduated from Bonita Vista High School where he was a two sport letterman. He still ranks amongst the best 400 Meter runners in CIF San Diego Section history posting an impressive 47.59 to cap off his high school career. He went on to earn a track scholarship to the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) (1979-81). Following two years at UNLV, he returned home and attended San Diego State University (SDSU) (1981-83) as a scholarship student-athlete.
He competed for 9 years at the youth club to the collegiate level. During his career, he competed at some of the highest profile local and national meets ranging from the CIF San Diego Section (Prelim & Finals) Meet, California State Meet, National Amateur Athlete Union (AAU) Outdoor Championships to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
He has 19 years of coaching experience (Assistant  years & Head Coach  years) combined experience as a club and high school coach. He has served as the Youth Chair of USATF San Diego Imperial Association for the past 12 years. In his role as Youth Chair, he leads the grassroots effort working with the Association's clubs promoting and exposing the sports of track and field and cross country to youth competitors throughout San Diego and Imperial counties. He serves on the Board of Directors for the USATF San Diego Imperial Association.
Coach Adkins is a certified USATF Official. He holds a Level 1 Coaching Certification from USATF, the governing body for track in field in the United States of America. He is a member of the National Youth Track Coaches Association.
